A legendary rivalry is about to reach its climax, and it's a tale that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Ben Rothwell and Andrei Arlovski, two heavyweights with a history, are set to face off once more, but this time, the rules have changed.
Rothwell, a man with a mission, has had two previous encounters with Arlovski, and he believes the third time will be his charm. In 2008, Arlovski knocked him out, and nearly 11 years later, he secured a unanimous decision in their UFC rematch. These losses, however, only fueled Rothwell's determination.
"I know that if I had just a little more time, I would've won that fight," Rothwell shared with MMA Junkie Radio. "But those losses were major events for both of us, and they helped shape our careers. This third fight, though, is the biggest. It's the one I need to win to finish my career on a high note."
Arlovski, a former UFC heavyweight champion with an impressive record of 34-24, is no stranger to success. His name is etched in the UFC's heavyweight record books, but Rothwell believes this time, the advantage lies with him.
"Bareknuckle boxing is a whole different ball game," Rothwell explained. "In our previous fights, Arlovski utilized kicks and takedowns, but in this rule set, he's limited. He has to face my hands, the most dangerous weapons on the planet right now."
But here's where it gets controversial... Rothwell isn't just looking at this fight as a chance for redemption. He's eyeing a potential spot in a proposed BKFC tournament with a whopping $15 million prize for the winner. If he wins this trilogy bout, he could be on his way to a five-fight challenge within a year, and he believes it might be the perfect swansong to his career.
"The UFC gave me anxiety, making me nervous about all the possibilities—kicks, takedowns, submissions. In bareknuckle, I can wipe the slate clean and focus on what I do best. I'm going in there to smash, and I'm confident I can do it."
And this is the part most people miss... Rothwell's confidence isn't just bluster. With a perfect 4-0 record in BKFC, he's the heavyweight champion, and he's ready to prove that his hands are the ultimate weapons.
So, who will emerge victorious in this heavyweight showdown? Will Rothwell's prediction come true, or will Arlovski's experience prevail? And what impact will this fight have on the proposed BKFC tournament? These questions and more will be answered at BKFC: KnuckleMania 6 on February 7th at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
