The Corvette ZR1 Keeps Shattering Lap Records: A New Mosport Benchmark
Records keep tumbling for Chevrolet’s formidable Corvette ZR1. Earlier in 2025, Chevy pushed its supercar to the limit across five iconic courses. Now, the ZR1 adds another blazing time to its rapidly growing trophy case.
A 2026 Corvette ZR1, piloted by Canadian legend Ron Fellows, blitzed the Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park) production-car lap record with an astonishing 1:18.2. This shatters the previous mark of 1:22.12, set by a 2023 Z06—also driven by Fellows.
Ron Fellows is deeply connected to Mosport and to Corvettes alike. As a co-owner of the track and a longtime Corvette racer, he’s an ideal choice for this challenge.
Put a Le Mans and Daytona-winning driver behind the wheel of a car boasting 1,064 horsepower, and it’s no surprise spectacular performance follows. The optional ZTK suspension downforce package adds further bite.
“With more downforce, you can attack corner entry that much more aggressively,” Fellows explains. “In Turn 8, for instance, I braked at about the same spot as in the Z06, yet exited about 20 mph faster.”
The ZR1’s magic comes from a rear-mounted, twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8. Chevrolet claims a 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds, and the optional downforce setup can deliver up to roughly 1,200 pounds of downward push.
This Mosport run adds to a slate of fast laps at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and two configurations at Virginia International Raceway, with the ZR1X–the model’s larger, more extreme sibling–also recording a Nürburgring lap in Germany.
Notably, the car used for this record appears to be part of the new Stars & Steel collection, hinting at Chevrolet’s branding strategy while showcasing a Canadian-record-setting moment. It also raises questions about whether the timing aligns with the debut appeal of a limited-run 2026 ZR1 variant.
Regardless of the marketing angles, Fellows’ performance at Mosport demonstrates that the ZR1 remains a premier North American supercar, and his driving genius at Mosport reinforces his title as the park’s legendary magician.
