A father's dream realized: capturing his son's baseball journey on camera.
In a heartwarming tale, Brian Miller, a proud dad and photography enthusiast, shares his joy as his son, Cody, embarks on a professional baseball career. Cody, a talented shortstop, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 2025 Bowman Draft, and his first baseball card features a photograph taken by none other than his dad.
"I'm on an incredible high, and it just keeps getting better," Brian exclaimed. "To see my son's face on a baseball card, knowing I captured that moment, is truly special."
But here's where it gets even more remarkable. Topps, the renowned baseball card company, reached out to Brian for Cody's photos. Little did they know, Brian had already been documenting Cody's journey, capturing his games and even his brother's matches at Carson-Newman University.
"It's a dream come true for both of us," Brian shared. "First, the draft, and then to have the Braves, our lifelong team, select Cody. It's a full-circle moment for me, as I grew up watching Braves games on WTBS, and now my son is part of that legacy."
And this is the part most people miss: Brian's love for the Braves and baseball cards is deeply personal. He collects cards, especially those of his favorite player, Dale Murphy, and has passed this passion onto Cody. It's a beautiful intergenerational connection.
The 2025 college baseball season was a breakthrough for Cody at ETSU, leading his team to championships and attracting scouts' attention. Brian recalls the draft day with a smile, "Cody's phone rang during the third round, and when he answered, we knew. He looked at me and said, 'Of course I will.'"
The celebration began early, and Brian's photography skills played a pivotal role. He captured Cody's first professional game and his first home run, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
"The Braves' farm system is like a family to us now," Brian said. "With all their teams in Georgia, I can follow Cody's journey closely, and I plan to be there for every step."
As we look ahead, Brian dreams of capturing Cody's potential major league debut. "It would be an honor to witness and photograph that moment," he said.
