You can now purchase a JR East Green Station Clock Book in Japan.
Japanese rail enthusiasts aren’t the only ones captivated by trains—they’re drawn to the stations themselves, with their distinctive sounds and thoughtfully engineered features that give each stop its own charm. At stations operated by East Japan Railway (JR East), platforms showcase clocks with fluorescent yellow-green dials that seem to glow in the bustle of the station environment.
JR East runs stations across the eastern and northern regions of Japan, including the Tokyo metro area, Tohoku, and parts of the Kanto region.
Takarajimasha, a Tokyo-based publisher known for its “mooks” (magazine books), has released a collectible that brings this iconic clock into homes. The mook format blends a durable standalone product with a glossy booklet—offering a longer shelf life than typical magazines and including a special item in a box.
The new release, titled the JR East Green Station Clock Book, has fans eagerly awaiting its arrival. The clock itself is a faithful recreation: it bears the familiar JR East logo, a fluorescent dial, uniquely shaped hands, and a precisely matched frame. Its dimensions are 13.4 cm wide, 10 cm tall, and 4.1 cm deep, making it a perfect desk or bedside companion.
Beyond its good looks, the clock offers appealing sound features. Made by Eiraku Electric, a company with 75 years of history, the device provides two alarm tones—high and low—and can switch between two authentic train departure bell sounds with a simple toggle. For Japanese rail fans, waking to these sounds could feel like starting the day at a bustling JR East station.
If preferred, the clock can be wall-mounted thanks to back holes for hooks. Placed at eye level, it provides a daily reminder of the station atmosphere every time you glance its way.
The JR East Green Station Clock Book is set for release on January 14, with a suggested price of 3,422 yen. It’s expected to sell out quickly, often via pre-order, so prospective buyers should act fast. Visit major online retailers to reserve yours: Takarajimasha, Rakuten Books, Amazon, and Yodobashi.
