Prince's Golf Club, a historic Kent links venue, has unveiled a new 18-hole championship course, 'The Laddie'. This innovative composite routing combines the best holes from its existing nine-hole loops: Himalayas, Shore, and Dunes. The course, designed in collaboration with The R&A and Mackenzie & Ebert, will be used for future championships and available for play at select times. The announcement comes as Prince's prepares to host the 2030 Walker Cup, further solidifying its status as a premier golf destination in the UK.
The club's recent transformation is remarkable. Significant investment from the McGuirk family and design influence from Martin Ebert have elevated Prince's to new heights. Extensive bunker reshaping, firmer turf, and restored sandy wasteland areas have brought all three nines to an impressive standard. The once-weak Himalayas loop is now a standout, showcasing the club's architectural polish.
The Laddie, named after P.B. 'Laddie' Lucas, a celebrated club figure, offers a challenging par 71 layout at 7,435 yards. It aims to create a championship-worthy test, rivaling the best links courses in Britain. Prince's General Manager, Rob McGuirk, expresses confidence in its global appeal.
Beyond the course, Prince's continues to invest in its facilities, including clubhouse upgrades, practice areas, and accommodation improvements. The club's vision is clear: it wants to be a modern championship destination, potentially hosting The Open Championship again. With its rich history, recent developments, and championship-ready course, Prince's is poised to make a significant impact in the world of golf.
